Kelly Currie, MD, is a Washington University Physicians of Illinois Inc. plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has recently joined the Alton Memorial Hospital medical staff.
Dr. Currie specializes in hand/upper extremity surgery and general reconstructive plastic surgery. Some of the conditions she treats are carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, breast reduction, excess skin, hand injuries and skin cancer. Dr. Currie is available for appointments and accepts new patients. She is located in Suite 101 of Medical Office Building A on the Alton Memorial Hospital campus along with Dr. John Felder and Lorraine Seiffert, NP. To schedule an appointment, please call 618-433-6006.
Dr. Currie performs Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet (WALANT) hand procedures in the office setting, which has proven to be a safe alternative and has no increase in complication rate compared to the traditional operating room setting. This technique produces high patient satisfaction due to its improved patient convenience and can frequently provide quicker access than the operating room. With this technique, patients do not need to fast or stop any medications -- including blood thinners -- before surgery, making for a convenient option for patients. Another significant benefit is patients hear feedback on their surgery at the office as opposed to returning for a post-op visit.
Dr. Currie completed her General Surgery residency at Mary Imogene Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, N.Y., and her Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. She then went on to complete a Hand and Microsurgery fellowship at Southern Illinois University in Springfield. Her hobbies include spending time with her husband and two sons, fly fishing, camping, and trying new restaurants.
